Hey, friends. You know how sometimes it snows 6+ feet over the course of three weeks? The map on your weather app is a perpetual shade of turquoise, you catch yourself wearing ski pants to the supermarket and dismissively refer to 6 – 8 inches of the white stuff as a ‘coating’? Well, sometimes you start carrying a Stanley thermos filled with red wine hot chocolate and suddenly your disposition improves dramatically. It’s not a trip to the Caribbean, but it helps. A bit.
Red Wine Hot Chocolate
Adapted from Home Cooking Adventure
3 tsp unsweetened dark cocoa powder
4 tsp sugar
1/4 cup red wine (use your favorite, I used Cabernet Sauvignon)
1 cup milk (I used whole)
pinch of salt
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine milk, sugar, cocoa powder and salt. Whisk constantly until mixture comes to just a simmer. Gently add red wine, continuing to whisk until mixture is heated through. Be careful not to let boil as this could cause curdling. Pour into thermos or 2 mugs and share with a friend.
