Apologies for taking a little snack break – we’ve had a pretty shenanigans-filled Summer. We’ve traveled to Maine, Mexico, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island – and had plenty of fun in Massachusetts, as well. I hope you’ve all had a great Summer. Been to a new restaurant? Had a delicious meal or a great cocktail? Do share!
And now, back to business!
Recently my good friend Jennie made a beautiful late-Summer batch of raspberry jam and she was kind enough to share a jar with me. It’s incredible! The color and flavor are so vibrant. It’s lovely on toast with almond butter and as it turns out, also quite nice in a cocktail. I’ve wanted to try this gin and jam concoction for ages. Jennie’s jam was the perfect excuse.
Feel free to use store bought jam or try making your own. I think blackberry jam would also be really nice with this or you could try blueberry jam with vodka. You could also play around with the simple syrups – thyme would be a nice addition.
These would be nice for brunch, but fair warning, they’re strong and they taste like candy.
Gin & Jam Cocktail
Original recipe from HonestlyYUM
2 oz gin
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup (more or less depending on the sweetness of the jam)
1 tbsp raspberry jam (or two)
In a cocktail shaker add gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and several ice cubes. Shake, then strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.
Float a spoonful of jam on top of the ice, and gradually stir it in to taste.
P.S. Something To Snack On turned one earlier this week! Thanks for all your support and encouragement during the past year!
